Rotten Idol
A downloadable game
I developed this prototype in a 5-months period in late 2022 - early 2023.
Its demonstrates an idea for a top-down survival-horror using the classic Resident Evil paradigm of friction-heavy exploration, limited resources management, back-tracking and route planning, & choice of engagement or avoidance of fights.
Quite late in development of this prototype, I started adding light "stealth" mechanics in response to what emerged through level design and playtesting.
The project is relatively scalable right now, with quite a few tools to help iterate on level designs, so I may come back to the project later. The world building and sense of purpose should be fleshed out a lot more, though, in this eventuality.
Although for now the game has no finite state per se and a few dead ends, unlocking all the doors and exploring the whole map could be done, with full knowledge of the best routes, in 10 minutes. But a first playthrough is more likely to take 30 minutes up to an hour or 2, depending on your playstyle.
